About Unique Like Me
The Educational Service Center of the Western Reserve (ESCWR) operates programming for individuals with disabilities for the local school districts of Geauga and Lake Counties. Local school districts, as well as, districts from surrounding counties, are all able to send students to this consortium programming.
The retail site offers students, ages 16 to 22, skills training options and appropriate skills for a variety of vocational settings. Unique Like Me is an additional option on the vocational skills training continuum available to the students of Lake and surrounding counties. Unique Like Me was the first storefront model of skills training accessible to these students. Unique Like Me officially opened its doors to the public on
Thursday, December 1, 2011.
The purpose of Unique Like Me is to provide unique, quality, handmade and/or recycled products to consumers while, at the same time, build an awareness of the overwhelming number of abilities demonstrated by individuals with disabilities. In addition, the business will provide real life, meaningful work experiences, as well as, opportunities for interactions with individuals from the community, to students with disabilities as part of their work skills training.
